ABOUT

Palkó Ernő portrait

Over the recent years, my preoccupations as a ceramic artist have materialised in a series of personal exhibitions: Terra – Millenium and Grafiterra, hosted in Cluj, Bucharest, Wels (Austria) and Veszprém (Hungary); Terra Magica, hosted in Art Museum Cluj.

I have chosen for them this title starting from the idea that TERRA can represent a symbol of my artistic expression in ceramic art, which emerges from the memory of the ancient artefacts, transferred into modern experiments—in other words, by making the transition from the ancient to the modern, a process illustrative and defining for the language of my forms oriented towards an contemporary artistic discourse.

In the wake of these experiments, Terra magica has evolved towards an abstract-symbolic figuration, in which the creative effort is subordinated to the anthropomorphic image which is accompanied by drapery or mineral incrustations—wherein the techniques peculiar to ceramic art (patinas, textures and effects resulting from firing) lavishly support and strengthen the plastic expression of the sculptural whole.
